Presentation
The Master’s program inIntegrative Biology and Physiology (BIP) is multidisciplinary, offering an integrative approach to biological functions through the Omics, with complementary skills in big data analysis and AI. The complexity of biological processes requires an integrated and multidisciplinary approach that can be studied using complementary techniques (genomics, transcriptomics, epigenetics, proteomics, metabolomics, etc.) and their integration with bioinformatics and artificial intelligence (AI) tools. The program is open to all biologists, biochemists, and analytical chemists holding a bachelor’s degree or University Bachelor of Technology (B.U.T). However, knowledge in the fields of cell biology, physiology, molecular biology, and biochemistry or analytical chemistry is required.
Objectives
The Master's in Integrative Biology and Physiology trainsbiologists to understand and analyze the physiological mechanisms of organisms, from the molecular level to that of the entire organism. It aims to develop an integrated and multidisciplinary approach to major biological functions and their regulation, in relation to health, the environment, and biotechnology. The program prepares students for fundamental and applied research by equipping them with solid experimental, analytical, and methodological skills, as well as a high degree of scientific autonomy, opening the door to doctoral studies or careers in research and development.
Know-how and skills
Theoretical; Practical; In-depth knowledge of biological mechanisms and dysregulation related to diseases; Implementation of Omics approaches and data interpretation; Use of bioinformatics tools. The BIP program is divided into four blocks of knowledge and skills:
BCC: Generating OMICS data for integrative biology and physiology
BCC: Analyzing complex data from integrative biology and physiology
BCC: Solving a problem in integrative biology and physiology
BCC: Leading and managing projects in integrative biology and physiology in a professional environment
International dimension
Training open to international students.
Training benefits
The master’s program is designed to accommodate students from various academic backgrounds (biology, biochemistry, chemistry). It is supported by research teams specializing in genomics, epigenetics, proteomics, metabolomics, and bioinformatics. The program’s faculty members are actively involved in biological and clinical research and come from units recognized by Inserm, the CNRS, INRAE, and INRIA. This program also draws on recognized centers of excellence in the fields of Omics and precision medicine. They are nationally accredited and provide services for academic, clinical, industrial, and bioinformatics engineering projects at research laboratories in Lille, as well as national and international institutions. These centers of excellence host the practical training offered in this program and are involved in the Master’s program’s advisory board, as required by the FST.
Organization
The master's degree is divided into four knowledge and skills blocks (KSB):
KSB: Producing Omics data for integrative biology and physiology
KSB: Analyzing complex data from integrative biology and physiology
KSB: Solving a problem in integrative biology and physiology
KSB: Leading and managing projects in integrative biology and physiology in a professional environment

Further studies
Students may, if they wish, continue on to a doctoral program, which will then enable them to pursue careers as research engineers, researchers, or teacher-researchers.
Professional integration
Master's graduates hold positions as design engineers (IE), project managers, or CEOs. They can also pursue a doctorate, which then allows them to hold positions as research engineers (IR), researchers, or teacher-researchers. In the academic sector: Universities, major research centers (CNRS, Inserm, Institut Pasteur, INRAE, Institut Curie); Companies: Pharmaceuticals, Dermato-cosmetics, Biotechnology, etc.; Start-ups: integration or creation.
To find out more about the professional integration of Université de Lille graduates, consult the job directories published byODiF (Observatoire de la Direction de la Formation).
The Répertoire Opérationnel des Métiers et des Emplois (ROME ) job/occupation sheets provide a better understanding of occupations and the skills associated with them.
